What We Do
- NMRA is a nonprofit organization whose mandate is to support the development of Qikiqtani Inuit communities by facilitating the acquisition of marine knowledge, accelerating the commercialization of research outcomes, and providing diverse opportunities for Inuit to access and advance within the blue economy at all career stages. NMIR’s program offerings were founded upon 5 years of successful community-led research, vessel-based and shore-based training, early career ocean focused summer work internships, and engagement by Qikiqtaaluk Corporation’s Fisheries Division and its strategic partners. It owns two dedicated research vessels (the RV Ludy Pudluk and the RV Moses Appaqaq) and possesses substantial on-vessel and land-based experience in workforce and training program design and delivery in Qikqitani. It is a dedicated delivery agent for marine research and training initiatives that align with Nunavut Tunngavik Inc, Qikiqtani Inuit Association and Qikiqtani community priorities.
