Qikiqtaaluk Corporation Supports Qikiqtani School Breakfast Programs
On the occasion of the Qikiqtaaluk Corporation (QC) 30th anniversary the Board of Directors is pleased to announce a special contribution of $16,000.00 ($1,000.00 for each of the 16 schools in the Qikiqtani region) for their breakfast programs. Youth often will go to school having absolutely nothing at home and in some cases; children will not have time to eat breakfast, oftentimes leading to behavioural and academic problems.
Each year QC sets aside a budget for contributions to worthwhile youth and community projects. For our 30th anniversary we went looking for special youth initiatives on which to focus our attention.
“On behalf of the Board of Directors we are pleased with this opportunity to support our communities in support of this very fundamental program to support youth development and promote community health.” said Levi Barnabas, Chairman.
The funding will benefit the children of the Qikiqtani region in many ways:
- Improved concentration and performance in the classroom,
- More strength and endurance to engage in physical activity,
- Prevention of poor Health, and
- the promotion of good Health habits.
Harry Flaherty, President and CEO, remarked; “We firmly believe that no child should go to school hungry, and that students who are able to start their day with a proper meal are able to focus on their studies more effectively.”
QC hopes that this will lead to students becoming more successful, and therefore more prepared to lead the development of the Qikiqtani region in the future.
