Qikiqtaaluk Corporation engaged Hydrosys Consultants inc. to undertake a prefeasibility study of the hydropower potential on the Duval River in Pangnirtung, Nunavut. Funding for the prefeasibility study came from the 2015-16 Eco-Energy for Aboriginal and Northern Communities program. This prefeasibility report presents and details two projects layout scenarios. Both scenarios offer a hydro plant capacity of 2 MW, which meets the projected summer season peak demand of Pangnirtung for the next 40 to 50 years. Flows in the Duval River are only available seasonally from early June to late September. Both scenarios share the same powerhouse location but have different intake location (different gross head and penstock length).
