Through the logistical coordination and management capacity of its subsidiary, Qikiqtani Industry Ltd. (formerly Qikiqtaaluk Logistics), QC has become a leader in Nunavut for the development of major infrastructure projects; since 2007, QL has hired over 400 employees for the Mary River project, becoming one of the most important private employers in Nunavut. 80% of the employees were Inuit who have been recruited from various communities of the Qikiqtani region.
The employment positions included heavy equipment operators, heavy equipment mechanics, electricians, plumbers, carpenters, general labours, polar bear monitors, janitors, nurses, medics, cooks, cook helpers, assistant coordinators, coordinators, and supervisors.
In 2007-2008, our road crew assisted in the construction of the air strip, the fuel farm, camp installations and sea lift activities. They installed bridges and culverts over rivers on a 100km road that links Milne Inlet to Mary River. Our crew ensured the road was well maintained and functional, clearing snow throughout the winter.
Our catering crew have been providing catering services non-stop, year round, for the last three years for the Mary River Project, being fully responsible for organizing and managing several sites at the same time. In summer, the QL catering team prepares up to 30,000 meals per month.
